Did You Know?Baseball is the only sport where the home team defines the dimensions of their home playing field. This dates back to the early days of the game when rope was strung deep in the outfield to keep fans out of the action. In the early 1900s, when ballparks like Fenway Park and Wrigley Field were built, clubs wanted more paying fans. So Crosley-Fieldballparks were enclosed, outfield fences were erected, and fans sat above the fences on bleachers. These ballparks were often wedged into city blocks in downtown locations to draw more fans, leading to oddly shaped fields and fence heights.
